History of Largs Film Society

The Largs Film Society was started in January 2006, following a proposal by local film buff Peter Allam in May 2005. His vision was to have a film society similar to the Glasgow Film Theatre.

The first screening was “The House of the Flying Daggers”, well received by an initial membership of 65 people. This was the first film to be shown in Largs since the closure of the cinema 3 years previously.

The Society received Lottery Funding in October 2006 to purchase new equipment. The Earl of Glasgow became Patron in 2007.

We have screenings approximately every 3 weeks in the Vikingar! Cinema from September till May each year, on Friday evenings at 7.30 pm (Programme attached)

The Vikingar! capacity is 80 seats, and for the past few seasons we have had 80 members.
Our back catalogue of films is available for hire to members.
